NOTE. A letter from Henry II to his sheriffs of Staffs. that the lands & the men which belong to the church of Wolverhampton be exempt from court attendance & fines both of shires & hundreds & for all things except for murder & highway robbery c.1160.
Fascimile of the Harley Charter in BM 43 D. 29 confirmed by Edward III on May 7 1328 of charters granted to Wolverhampton Church by Edward the Confessor (c.1060), William I (c.1072), & the two of Henry II in 1154-5, the copy shows obverse & reverse of seal.
Note about the church seals - The seals of the Dean & Chapter of Wolverhampton dating from about 1450, before the Deanery was united with that of Windsor, is carefully preserved in the church safe. Impressions of earlier seals (one post-Restoration seal) are in a glass case hanging on the wall near the S entrance.
Fascimile of the Harley Charter in BM 43 E. 51 being letters patent of Edward IV granted Nov. 21 1461 confirming those granted to the church of Wolverhampton in 1328 (7 May): 1374 (12 Dec.) to Richard Postell, Dean & 1379 (30 March) - showing obverse & reverse sides.
Cast of a seal of Richard (Beauchamp) while Bishop of Salisbury 1470 installed as 12th Dean of Windsor 1477 & Dean of Wolverhampton 1479 he held all three offices till his death in 1481, he is the bishop whose effigy appears on the font.
The Solar now a library for the clergy of Wolverhampton. The last Archdeacon of Stafford Ven. C.E. Blakeway left about 450 volumes to the library to be the property of the Collegiate Church in perpetuity.
South outer doors are of oak, above being a tympanium of geometrical design & glazed, an angel bears on a shield the emblem of the patron saint, the keys of St Peter. The Alpha & Omega above, and the wording on the doors to remind those who enter that they have come to God’s sanctuary. The inner doors - Over the centre appear the keys of St Peter & above supported by two angels, with Mother of Pearl holes, are the arms of the Mander family. On E side are arms of the Lady Mander, and of Nova Scotia, her native land. On W side is the crest of Sir Charle sMander & the arms of his college, Corpus Christi, Cam. The two figures who flank the memorial are Charles I & St thomas a Beckett - Charles I because of his stay in Wolverhampton in 1642 & St Thomas a Beckett was the Chancellor who signed the document confirming the privileges of the church in 1168. The memorial is made to designs by Mr J.A. Swann F.R.I.B.A. of Birmingham & the craftsmen were Messrs Panchieri & Hack of Bromsgrove.

John Gux of The Park, Kingswinford died by a fall of coals in Nº 2 Pit, Himley Colliery Jan. 8 1877 aged 44, his son John James died aged 7 in the July of that year. Staff Sgt. H.W. Wilkes accidently drowned off the island of St Helena July 21 1900 aged 34. Col. William George Webb MP for this division of Staffs d1905 aged 62. Edward Evans accidently killed June 3 1958 aged 24. Carl Bridgewater killed Sept. 19 1978 aged 13, vase reads ‘In memory of Carl from pupils & staff of Buckpool School’.
