Mark Wilks Mac Hutchin d1906 & to all those lost lives in the various colliery disasters in parish Talke, the bells were erected in this church Sept. 15 1906. Eliza Louisa Marsh Caldwell d1913, Georgina Amelia Marsh Caldwell d1900, Rosamond Jane Marsh Caldwell d1911, all daughters of Arthur Cuthbert Marsh & wife Anne. William Dale, sexton d1918. WW1 Roll of Honour in wooden panelling around altar. Major General F.C. Heath-Caldwell of Linley Wood C.B. Royal Engineers d Sept. 18 1945. Incumbents plaque (in 1646 W. Kelsall was ejected).
GLASS MEMORIALS. One window commemorates two local disasters - i) Aug. 1782 a gunpowder wagon exploded, George III ordered a collection; ii) Dec. 13 1866 Talk o th Hill Pit which killed 91 men, Queen Victoria ordered a fund to help. W window depicts St Martin - Rev. John Henry Lilwall Edwards M.A. & wife Helen, 1950. Another window in memory of the Mining Industry & St Saviour’s Church, Butt Lane, restored 1975.

Joseph Yoxall, John Samuel Kenyon lost their lives in the Talk o th Hill Explosion Dec. 13 1866 aged 32. Job Cooper accidently killed in the mines of N. Staffs. Coal & Iron Company July 23 1868 aged 12. Frank Birchall killed in the Talk o th Hill Explosion Feb. 18 1873 aged 15. Richard Jackson killed in Bunkers Hill Colliery Explosion April 30 1875. Nathaniel Clarke in an accident at Talk o th Hill Colliery 13 June 1890. Annie Julia wife of Rev. Mark W. Mac Hutchin d1903 neice of the last Earl of Egremont. Isaac Cartlidge lost his life at Jamage Colliery Sept. 9 1907 aged 28.

John Corby of London d1819 (the stonemason was one Henry Mitchell of Tamworth when aged 14 (1820), an apprentice who had written far beneath the script on that bit of stone normally below ground level, ‘Stop, spectator and this grave view The next thats made may be for you’). Six female servants who perished in the fire at the Castle Inn Nov. 2 1838 (VB p32). Edward (Ned) Farmer d1876. Albert Burton drowned whilst bathing in the R. Anker Sept. 3 1878 aged 12.

Holts Ten Part Peal of Grandsire Triples 5040 Changes, on Feb. 6 1888 Taylors Bob & Single Peal of Grandsire Triples 5040 changes 194 Bobs, 46 Singles in 2 hours 55 mins. On 22 May 1888 a peal of Bob Triples 5040 changes was rung in 3 hours being the 1st peal in that method upon these bells. On 14 Sept. 1889 in 2 hours 52 mins. Thurstans Peal in that intricate & most beautiful method of Stedman Triples 5040 changes. On 18 Aug. 1888 in 2 hours & 51 mins. a peal of Grandsire Triples 5040 changes Taylors Bob & Single Variation. On 21 Feb. 1889 in 2 hours 52 mins. on Excellent Struck peal in Stedman Triples 5040 changes, Thurstans Composition with Single at half way & end of peal. On 2 Jan. 1892 Mr. T.Day’s three part peal of Kent Treble Bob Major 5088 changes in 3 hours 16 mins. On 16 Jan. 1892 a peal of Darlaston Bob Triples 5040 changes in 2 hours 56 mins. being a six part peal composed by Mr. John Carter also the 1st in this method rang upon the bells, being a muffled peal in token respect to H.R.H. the late Duke of Clarence. On 12 Oct. 1895 in 2 hours 55 mins. a peal 5040 changes of Double Norwich Court Bob Major, on Jan. 18 1896 in 2 hours 55 mins. a peal 5000 changes of Forward Major. On 16 Feb. 1907 in 3 hours Thurstans’s Five part peal of Stedman Triples 5040 changes, on 27 April 1907 in 2 hours 52 mins. John Carter’s Ten Part peal of Stedman Triples 5,040 changes. On 9 Nov. 1918 in 2 hours 50 mins a peal of Stedman Triples 5040 changes Sir G.P. Heywoods Transposition of Thurstans Four part rung with the bells half muffled in token respect of Pte. John Geoffrey Rowley 2nd Batt. Line Regt. killed at Wallingcourt Oct. 8 1918 aged 19. On 12 Nov. 1920 in 2 hours 45 mins. CHURCH. St Mary & All Saints. Legend has it that the church was carried down to Trentham by white oxen, or swans, or mice. It could be an ancient remembance of a procession of clergy from Hanchurch to Trentham (TTH pp21, 23). There is a water colour of the interior by John Sell Cotman c 1810 reproduced poorly in TTH p38.

The stone commemorating the Bould family dated 1588 was described as modern in 1857, perhaps erected at rebuilding of the church 1844 to commemorate the first family marked in the PR in 1558 (TTH p93). Miss Mary Jones Sunday School teacher, knocked down by a car and killed 1931 (TTH p110 - needs checking).
