Darkhouse Lane

At the Baptist Chapel in Darkhouse Lane was a memorial to Pte. Tom Barrett d1917. The Chapel was demolished and it is now at Whittington Barracks (TB Jan. 1981 p29).

A battered cherub remnant of a once grand Renaissance tomb, built into the E wall. they were for many years minus their heads until a vicar found them and replaced them. Very worn church chest. Short cross by porch outside used doubtless as a sundial. IN THE CHURCHYARD. John Rogers. Edward Manningham Buller 1st Baronet d1882. Morton Edward Manningham Buller 2nd Baronet d1910, & others of the Buller family of Dilhorne Hall. Large red marble platform over a vault, once topped with a white angel statue - John Slater M.P. of The Elms at Boundary, he collasped and died in the House of Commons Feb. 5 1935, there followed a huge funeral at this church.
